Show HN: Date Clue – I built a modern version of magazine dating quizzes
Hey HN! I built Date Clue because I kept hearing the same dating stories from friends and family. The endless "what does this text mean?" conversations. The overthinking. Asking five different people for five different opinions.
It reminded me of those magazine quizzes, the ones where you'd answer a few questions and get something like "He's Into You" or "Run." Kind of silly, but also useful for getting out of your own head.
I wanted to make a modern version. Same entertainment value, but with context-aware responses based on your specific situation. Not generic "communication is key" advice.
How it works:
- Pick a situation: Texting patterns, Double text decisions, Red flags, Ghosting, Situationship clarity, or Second date signals
- Answer 5-7 questions about your scenario
- Get an insight with a suggested next step
What's free: Preview mode for 2 categories (no account needed). 1 full insight/day with free sign-in.
Research approach: I read a lot of dating subreddits, advice columns, and relationship psychology content to understand what patterns repeat. The quiz questions and insight logic reflect real scenarios (qualitative research, no training on user data).
Would love feedback on whether the insights feel useful or too generic. It's entertainment (not professional advice), but I tried to make them thoughtful.
